The law prevents a merchant to invoice you for goods or services that you did not request. For example, if a contractor sprays your lawn without your requesting it, you do not have to pay for the service.
In case of a problem
If a contractor invoices services that you did not request or authorize, you should advise them that you will not pay for those services. Ask that they cancel the invoice that they sent to you.
Automatic contract renewal
Does your contract include an automatic renewal clause? If it does, and the contractor provides services that you did not request past that renewal date, the Office de la protection du consommateur recommends that you consult a lawyer.
