The work done must conform to what was agreed upon with the electrician or the plumber. If it does not, here is what you can do.
Negotiate with the contractor
Try to reach an agreement with the electrician or the plumber so they finish or redo the work. The page Negotiating with a merchant explains how to do so.
Send a formal notice
If the contractor refuses to finish or redo the poorly executed work, you can send a formal notice. The page Sending a formal notice provides further information on this topic.
Filing a complaint with the small claims court
If the electrician or the plumber does not respond to the request you made in the formal notice, you can resort to the courts. The page on small claims court provides further information on this topic.
Filing a complaint with a corporation
You can also file a complaint with one of the following corporations :
- Corporation des maîtres électriciens du Québec (in French only);
- Corporation des maîtres mécaniciens en tuyauterie du Québec (in French only).
