Whether you plan on selling your car to a parent or a friend or advertising it in classified ads, you should always tell the whole truth to the buyer. By doing so, you will avoid problems that could prove costly.

Needed repairs

You are not required to have needed repairs done before selling your car, but you need to disclose the work that needs to be done to the buyer. They might want to negotiate the price and evaluate the necessity of the repairs for themselves.

You can also provide receipts for the repairs that have been done to the car in the past.

Test drive and inspection

The Office recommends that you allow the buyer to conduct a test drive.

The buyer may also want to have a mechanical inspection done. If so, they must pay for the service.
