You can cancel your registration with a dating agency at any time. You will have to pay a penalty if you have begun receiving their services.

Cancelling before receiving services

If you cancel your registration before receiving any services, the dating agency cannot claim any fees or damages.

Cancelling after receiving services

If you have begun receiving services, you will have to pay the following 2 amounts:

  • at least the cost of services already received, including the fee charged to evaluate your file;
  • a penalty provided for by law. This penalty corresponds to the lowest of the following amounts: $50 or 10% of the services you have not received.

Example: You have paid $100 to register with a dating agency for a period of 10 weeks. After 2 weeks, you cancel your contract. You will have to pay $20 for the services received. You will also have to pay an $8 penalty, which corresponds to 10% of the cost of the services for the remaining 8 weeks.

Procedure to cancel your registration

To cancel your registration, you must send the merchant the cancellation form that was enclosed with the contract or another written notice.

We recommend you send the document by registered mail. The contract is cancelled as soon as the form or notice is sent.

As of the date the form or notice is sent, the merchant has 10 days to reimburse you, if applicable.

If you registered with a dating agency online or by telephone, the same rules apply.
