In general, the rules that govern phone or mail purchases apply to purchases made in Quebec from merchants operating there, whether they are based in Quebec or elsewhere in Canada or the world.
The rules do not apply to sales between two individuals, for example through classified advertisements Web sites.
Purchasing products from other countries
If you wish to purchase products from other countries:
- make sure that they meet Canadian safety standards;
- remember that certain products can be seized by customs agents, for example perfume or bottles of alcoholic beverages;
- consider the fees you may be required to pay, such as customs duties. You can consult the Canadian Border Services Agency Web site for more information.
