Automobile advertisements must abide by specific rules. Any advertisement that contains false or misleading information, or that conceals an important fact, is illegal.

Prohibited advertising practices

Merchants must avoid certain practices in their automobile advertisements. To find out which practices are prohibited, refer to the pages on advertisements for a new automobile or advertisements for a used automobile.

Similarly, advertisements for long-term leasing of an automobile must abide by the prescribed rules and contain the mandatory information.

Credit advertisements

Advertisements for the purchase of an automobile by instalment sale (where the merchant lets you pay for the automobile in several instalments) must abide by the prescribed rules. This is the case for both credit advertisements for a new automobile and credit advertisements for a used automobile.

All-inclusive price

Merchants must always advertise the all-inclusive price for a new automobile and the all-inclusive price for a used automobile. This means that the price includes all of the amounts you will have to pay to obtain the advertised automobile.
