In addition to being governed by the Consumer Protection Act, advertising is regulated by the Competition Act, which is under the authority of Competition Bureau Canada.

The Canadian Code of Advertising Standards also sets acceptability criteria in order to ensure the integrity and viability of advertising in Canada.
