Any merchant that suggests tip amounts to consumers, such as on a payment terminal, must respect the following conditions:

  • Amounts in the form of a percentage must be calculated on the price before GST and QST.
  • Only the suggested amounts and an option for consumers to determine the amount themselves can be provided.
  • The amounts and the option must be presented in a consistent manner, without inciting the consumer to select one choice over another.
