The law governs contracts signed with fitness or weight-management centres. Such centres are defined by the law as “physical fitness studios.”

Contracts with physical fitness studios aim to help you improve your physical condition with:

  • physical exercise;
  • weight management;
  • treatments;
  • a diet program.

Examples of types of fitness or weight-management centres

The following establishments are considered to be fitness or weight-management centres:

  • a health club (or a gym);
  • a weight-training centre;
  • a weight-loss clinic.

Establishments that are not considered to be fitness or weight-management centres

Establishments that specialize in teaching a specific technique, instead of aimed at improving the physical condition of their customers, are subject to different rules. Such is the case for dance and martial arts schools, for example. See the Courses section for further information on this topic.
