What if your snow removal company requests additional amounts for its services? The reason may be that snow falls have exceeded what was provided for in the contract.

Additional amounts can be charged only if the contract included such a possibility. The contract must also include the following information:

  • the precise snowfall amount (in inches or centimeters, for example) after which the contractor may charge extra;
  • the amounts that will be charged if the snowfall limit is exceeded.

If there is a problem

In all other cases, if a snow removal company tries to modify its charges, try to negotiate with them. See Negotiating with a merchant to find out how to do so.

If you cannot reach an agreement, you can send a formal notice. The page Sending a formal notice provides further information on this topic.

If a merchant does not respond to the request you made in the formal notice, you can resort to the courts. The page on small claims court provides further information on this topic.
