Generally speaking, any sale is a firm sale. However, merchants often establish their own exchange and return policies even if the law does not require them to do so. Deadlines and conditions may vary according to the store. If a merchant has such a policy, he must respect it.

To avoid problems and make returns easier, adopt a few of these good habits:

  • Compare prices from several stores.
  • Examine the merchandise before buying it.
  • Before paying, ask about the exchange and return policy and have it written down on the bill if it is not listed there already.
  • Keep the bill, the instructions and documents pertaining to the care of the product as well as any warranty document to make it easier to return the product. It is recommended to make a copy of the bill as its contents can fade and become illegible.
