The Compensation fund for customers of travel agents is a financial protection administered by the Office de la protection du consommateur. It is meant to complement the protection offered by a travel insurance. You can benefit from this protection when you purchase services through a travel agency that has a licence issued by the Office.

Purpose of the fund

The fund is used to refund you if your travel agency or a provider (airline carrier, hotel, etc.) is not able to provide you with the services that you purchased.

The fund is used to reimburse you in specific situations. The page Cases covered by the fund provides more information about this subject.

If you dealt directly with a provider, without going through a travel agent with a licence, the Fund will not be able to protect you.

Customer contributions

The fund is made up of contributions that consumers pay when they enter into a contract with a travel agent operating in Québec.
The amount of your contribution is a percentage (0.1%) of your purchase. For example, if you buy $1,000 worth of services, your contribution to the fund will be $1. The contribution must be clearly indicated on the invoices or receipts that are given to you.
