Prearranged funeral services

Solicitation governed by the law

To protect consumers from abusive solicitation, the government has extended to all Québec vendors of prearranged funeral services and sepultures application of a voluntary commitment regarding rules of conduct in the door-to-door sale of prearranged funeral services and sepultures.

In keeping with this voluntary commitment, it is prohibited to solicit by telephone or in hospitals, reception centres, old-age homes or any similar establishment unless there has been an express request by the individual or the individual's guardian.

It is up to you to ask a representative to come see you and he must have 24-hours' advance authorization from you to come to your home. Visits must occur between 9:30 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. and may not last more than 2 hours.

The representative must give you all of the relevant information in a language you understand. It is formally prohibited for him to pressure, insist or harass you and he must leave as soon as you ask him to.

If you refused to sign a contract, the vendor may not contact you, or try to contact you, within one year of your refusal.
