Introduction
To ensure consumers better protection, new measures have been added to the Consumer Protection Act
. These measures have been in force since June 30, 2010. Some affect contracts involving sequential performance for a service provided at a distance.
It is a service contract whose delivery is rendered at a distance, at several different times or continuously. Service contracts for cell phones and residential phones, television broadcasting (cable and satellite), Internet access and remote surveillance are examples of this type of contract.
The merchant must abide by certain requirements concerning the information that must appear in the contract, the renewal clauses, unilateral amendment clauses, cancellation, repair of goods necessary for the use of the service and the security deposit provided by the consumer.
