Collection agent
Although it is important to make all of your payments on time to maintain a good credit rating, at some point, you may have trouble meeting your financial obligations. If so, make arrangements with your creditors to avoid having them use a collection agent to recover the amounts owing.
A collection agent is an intermediary mandated by a creditor (merchant or financial institution). The means he can use are rigorously governed by the Act respecting the collection of certain debts
and must be respectful of consumers. A collection agent may not use threats, harassment or intimidation in performing his duties. These same restrictions apply to anyone trying to collect a sum of money for themselves or someone else.
It would be advisable for the consumer to consult a lawyer if the consumer believes that the creditor's entitlement to claim the debt is barred by the lapse of time.
