Contract of sale
Although the Consumer Protection Act
does not explicitly govern new car purchases, several sections apply to transactions of this type.
Discussions between a merchant or merchant's representative and a consumer often lead to an agreement in the form of a written contract containing the following:
- contract location and date;
- both parties' names and addresses;
- vehicle description (year, serial no., brand, model, HP);
- comprehensive information on standard vehicle equipment;
- description of options chosen by consumer, if applicable, and cost of each option;
- features of manufacturer warranty;
- vehicle delivery date;
- all other costs related to the vehicle's sale;
- car price;
- merchant's Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec
automotive vehicle permit no. The SAAQ requires the merchant's permit no. to appear on all new car purchase contracts.
