Compulsory insurance
All motor vehicle owners must hold an insurance policy for material damages. The Automobile Insurance Act stipulates that the amount of this insurance, underwritten by a private company, must be at least $50 000. The Highway Safety Code requires a driver to have his driver's licence, vehicle registration papers and insurance certificate in his possession.
