Dimensions of a cord of wood
You may have to look long and hard to find a cord of wood corresponding to the standard defined in the Weights and Measures Act (federal legislation), i.e. a cord of approximately 3.5 m3 (128 cu. ft.: 4 ft. x 4 ft. x 8 ft.), properly piled, with the logs running in the same direction.
Heating wood merchants talk about "thin", "short" or "stove" cords, which are much smaller, or offer one-third cords 0.4 m x 1.2 m x 2.4 m (16 in. x 4 ft. x 8 ft.) or one-quarter cords 0.3 m x 1.2 m x 2.4 m (12 in. x 4 ft. x 8 ft.).
You always have to ask heating wood suppliers to specify the dimensions of their cord, and, to really be able to compare prices, you need to know the length of the logs. It is also important to ask that the wood be delivered corded in the truck so that you can measure the cord before unloading.
