Section of Consumer Protection Act

  • Governs merchant-consumer contracts
  • Provides for a fundamental guarantee on all goods and services
  • Provides for specific protection for certain types of contracts (credit, door-to-door sales, mail order sales, automobile sale and repair, long-term leasing, etc.)
  • Determines fields of commercial activity requiring permit issuing
  • Supervises advertising targeting children aged 13 and under
  • Prohibits merchants from employing deceitful practices

  • Requires agents to pay a surety that is proportional to their sales figure
  • Requires travel agents to collect and remit customer contributions to the Fonds d'indemnisation des clients des agents de voyages (Compensation fund for customers of travel agents), which it governs

  • Protects the amounts paid by consumers who buy prearranged funeral services and sepultures
  • Requires 90% of the cost of goods and services to be provided upon death to be deposited in trust
  • Requires the merchant to adjust the amounts deposited in trust to the cost-of-living index (inflation)
